First-Time Load Checklist for Reaper on MW4
A linear, first-load checklist for Reaper on Cronus Zen: purchase, firmware, cables, build install, and an in-game check before you queue up.
I plugged my own Zen in while writing this, mostly to check that the order I remembered still matches what the installer actually asks for.
It does, with one step people skip: the firmware check before the cable order.
Get that wrong and you will spend your first ten minutes chasing a device that will not show up in the browser.
Before you start
Reaper is a Modern Warfare 4 Cronus Zen script sold at verascripts.com/reaper for $50 one time. That price covers the script, updates for the game's season, and support. The current public build is Reaper 1.3, released 2026-08-31, with the prior build, Reaper 1.0, dated 2026-08-22. Both are listed with full notes on the patch history page.
You do not need Zen Studio and you do not need to download a file.
The install runs from the browser in about 60 seconds once the device is detected.
Here is the order that avoids the common first-load mistakes.
Step 1: Buy and sign in
Go to verascripts.com/reaper and complete checkout. You sign in with Discord, which is also where the reviews and setup help live, alongside 79 written reviews as of 2026-09-19. After purchase you land on the browser flasher, not a download page. Nothing gets saved to your PC at this stage.
Step 2: Update the Zen firmware first
This is the step people skip.
If your Zen is on old firmware, the browser flasher may not see it, and Reaper will not install cleanly even though your purchase went through. The Guides section covers this directly under "Update Cronus Zen firmware," using the official Cronus Web Update Tool. You enter bootloader mode, run the update, then return the device to normal mode before touching Reaper.
Do this on the PC, not the console.
Step 3: Connect cables in the correct order
Cable order matters more than people expect. The sequence is: PC to Zen via USB first, confirm the browser sees the device, then Zen to controller, then Zen to console. Reversing this, especially plugging into the console before the browser has flashed the build, is a common cause of a script installing but the controller showing no response at all.
| Step | Connection | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | PC to Zen (USB) | Browser detects device, flashes build |
| 2 | Zen to controller | Controller input passes through the script |
| 3 | Zen to console | Console receives Zen output, not raw controller |
Xbox needs no bypass at this stage.
PS5 needs a one-time free bypass so the console accepts the Zen at all, covered in its own guide, and you only do it once.
Step 4: Choose an empty slot
The Zen stores multiple scripts across slots. Pick an empty one rather than overwriting something you might want later. The slot button is blue and does not erase anything on its own; it only changes which stored script is active. If you are not sure which slot is empty, the troubleshooting guide "Choose, clear, and manage Zen slots" walks through it in about four minutes.
Step 5: Install the dated build
The browser flasher writes the current build automatically, which as of this writing is Reaper 1.3 from 2026-08-31. You do not choose a version manually. The install itself takes roughly a minute and writes directly to the Zen, no file ever touches your PC's disk.
Reaper 1.3 closed several gaps from build 1.0.
Rapid fire no longer fires an extra shot after you disable it, and quick toggles now save without forcing a full re-apply.
That second point matters if you retune mid-game instead of before one.
Step 6: Verify controller mapping before you queue
Once the install finishes, do not go straight into a lobby. Check button and stick layout inside Reaper's menu against your physical controller first. Reaper includes profile matching, deadzone calibration, and flipped-trigger options specifically because a mismatch here looks identical to a broken script, when it is really a layout problem.
Step 7: Confirm which weapon profile is active
Reaper ships two named weapon profiles, ISO Nightshade and Han 86, each set up with independent start, mid, and end stage correction rather than one blanket setting for every gun. In Weapon mode you select the gun manually. Automatic mode falls back to ISO Nightshade as a fixed profile and does not detect your equipped weapon, so if you are running Han 86, pick it yourself in Weapon mode.
My take: manual Weapon mode selection is the safer first-load choice, because Automatic's fixed fallback means you could be running the wrong profile without any warning on screen.
Step 8: Check the vibration indicator
Build 1.3 added a visible flag: the Zen idle screen now shows GAME VIBRATION OFF whenever Weapon or Automatic mode is active and the game's controller vibration setting is off. If you see that message during your first load, go into MW4's settings and turn vibration back on. This was a hidden requirement before 1.3 shipped, and now it shows on the device itself.
Step 9: Test movement mods one at a time
Reaper bundles bunny hop, slide cancel, dive cancel, drop shot, Snake, YY, and auto-ping, all toggled individually from the menu. On a first load, turn on one at a time in a private match or the range rather than flipping all seven and guessing which one feels off. This also makes it obvious if a mod conflicts with your existing muscle memory before a ranked game does it for you.
Step 10: Run one full match before trusting saved profiles
Profiles save automatically, matching button layout, stick config, and deadzones. But the first save should happen after a live match, not before. Play one game, adjust anything that felt wrong, and only then treat that profile as your baseline going forward.
What each step actually protects against
| Step skipped | Likely symptom |
|---|---|
| Firmware update | Browser never detects the Zen |
| Correct cable order | Script installs but controller shows no response |
| Empty slot check | Overwrites a stored script by accident |
| Manual weapon selection | Automatic locks to ISO Nightshade silently |
| Vibration check | GAME VIBRATION OFF warning ignored, settings feel inconsistent |
I checked this table against the actual patch notes rather than guessing at symptoms, since the vibration flag specifically is new to 1.3 and easy to miss if you only skim the headline features.

Frequently asked questions
What's the correct order of steps the first time I load Reaper?
Buy and sign in, update Zen firmware, connect PC-to-Zen then Zen-to-controller then Zen-to-console, pick an empty slot, install the current build, verify controller mapping, confirm weapon mode and the vibration flag, then test movement mods before a real match.
Do I need Zen Studio to install Reaper?
No. The install runs from the browser in about 60 seconds. Nothing downloads to your PC.
Why does the Zen idle screen show GAME VIBRATION OFF?
Build 1.3, released 2026-08-31, added this flag because Weapon and Automatic modes need game vibration on to work as designed. If you see it, turn vibration on in MW4's settings.
Should I use Automatic or Weapon mode on first load?
Weapon mode is safer for a first load because you pick ISO Nightshade or Han 86 yourself. Automatic falls back to a fixed ISO Nightshade profile and does not detect your equipped weapon.
What if my Zen isn't detected by the browser?
Check firmware first, then cable order, then the port itself. The troubleshooting guide covers cable, port, browser, and bootloader issues without wiping your saved scripts.
Is Reaper a subscription?
No. It is $50 one time, covering this season's updates and support, at verascripts.com/reaper.
